On Bullying and Rhyming: If You Can’t See Anything Beautiful About Yourself, Get A Better Mirror

Bullying is a leading cause of suicide for teens and young adults

“And if you can’t see anything beautiful about yourself, get a better mirror. Look a little closer. Stare a little longer. Because there’s something inside you that made you keep trying despite how everyone told you to quit. You built a cast around your broken heart and signed it yourself, you signed it, They were wrong.”–Shane Koyczan, “Pork Chop”

I don’t typically share other people’s content, but have decided this is far too powerful not to offer to as many individuals as possible. This is not to be missed.

As previously illustrated in my post about  bullying (The Banes Of Bullying: How Harassment Kills, and How We Can Make a Difference), this topic is near and dear to my heart, and his rhymes are so bold because they’re true, as well as simply stunning and critical to this vital conversation, because as we all know by now, bullying kills.

BUT WE CAN STOP IT.

This amazing spoken word/animated piece, titled “Pork Chop,” is  by Shane Koyczan, who is part of the To This Day project, which seeks to raise awareness about the reality of the deep psychological wounds cause by bullying.
